WAILUKU
Permits for firecrackers processed on Saturday

Advertiser Staff

The Maui County Fire Department will process fireworks permits from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at its Fire Prevention Bureau, 780 Alua St. in Wailuku.

During normal weekday business hours, permits can be processed at the Fire Prevention Bureau through Monday, and at county parks permit offices in Lahaina and on Moloka'i, and at the Pine Isle Market in Lana'i City.

Fireworks permits are required to purchase firecrackers, with each permit good for 5,000 firecrackers. There is no limit to the number of permits a person may purchase. Each permit costs $25.

Novelty fireworks such as sparklers, snakes, fountains and cone fountains that emit effects not higher than 12 feet off the ground do not require permits.

For more information, contact the Maui Fire Prevention Bureau at 244-9161 or visit www.co.maui.hi.us and review the fireworks rules under the "Fire Control" section.
