Most of the golfers in next week's Mercedes-Benz Championship, and more than 100 others, will play in the 10th anniversary of the Sony Open in Hawai'i. The PGA Tour's first full-field event of 2008 will be Jan. 10 to 13 at Waialae Country Club.

A preliminary entry list includes four of the top 10 in the World Golf Ranking — Jim Furyk (3), Steve Stricker (5), K.J. Choi (9) and Vijay Singh (10). U.S. Open champion Angel Cabrera is slated to play, along with Masters champ Zach Johnson. Paul Goydos is defending champion. Liang Wen-Chong, the top-ranked player from China, received an exemption along with John Daly.

Hawai'i has five players in the field, including Tadd Fujikawa. Kevin Hayashi and Punahou senior Alex Ching won the local qualifying. Tour members Dean Wilson and Parker McLachlin are home to play. McLachlin will be at an autograph session Jan. 6, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Hilton Hawaiian Village, Tapa Concourse.

Volunteers are still needed at Sony. Those interested should contact the appropriate Volunteer Coordinator: Gallery Control—Chuck McCauley at hawaiieer@aol.com; Shotlink—Beth Lagoy at ealagoy@hotmail.com; Admissions—Paul Bunda at paulb@nogins.com; Pro Transportation—Jim Quinn at jimymike@aol.com; Volunteer Pool—Jim Yuki at yookster@hawaii.rr.com.
