Crash shuts down Nimitz west-bound at Alakawa

Emergency responders have been sent to a stretch of Nimitz Highway near the intersection with Alakawa Street in response to a report of a two-vehicle collision.

The incident was reported about 1:29 a.m.

One of the vehicles flipped over and the other caught fire, according to emergency radio transmissions from the scene.

It was initially feared that some of those involved in the crash were trapped in their cars but it was later reported that everyone involved had managed to get out of their cars.

The was no word immediately on possible injuries to those involved in the crash.

West-bound traffic on Nimitz was being stopped prior to the crash site and sent back in the east-bound direction.
