Rainbows host tourney before long road trip

The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team will play its last home games for nearly a month when the Rainbow Wahine host the Bank of Hawaii Invitational at the Stan Sheriff Center today and tomorrow.

Today, Hawai'i (5-6) will face UC Irvine at 7 p.m. William & Mary will face Iona at 5 p.m. The two winners will meet for the championship tomorrow at 7 p.m., while the losers will meet at 5 p.m.

This will be the last home game for the Rainbow Wahine until Jan. 24 when they host Boise State in a Western Athletic Conference game.

UH begins the WAC season Jan. 9 on the road at Utah State.

Tanya Smith leads the Rainbow Wahine in scoring (12.0 points per game) and rebounding (10.6).

The senior was honored as the WAC player of the week Monday for the second time this season after recording two double-doubles at the Women of Troy Classic in Los Angeles, where UH went 1-1.

Schedule: Today—William & Mary vs. Iona, 5 p.m.; Hawai'i vs. UC Irvine, 7 p.m. Tomorrow: loser game 1 vs. loser game 2, 5 p.m.; winner game 1 vs. winner game 2, 7 p.m.

Television/Radio: KFVE-TV (Ch. 5) will carry today's UH game live; AM 1420 will carry both of Hawai'i's games live
