Sugar Bowl: Freebies for UH fans in New Orleans

Advertiser Staff

University of Hawaii fans attending the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans will be able to get some freebies — 20,000 UH Warrior fans shaped like helmets and 14,000 ti leaves — while supplies last.

The hand-held fans are helmet-shaped with "Proud to e a UH Warrio fan" on the front.

The UH Warrior fans will be distributed, as follows:

When: Dec. 30 & 31 and Jan. 1 from noon to 2 p.m. Mayor Mufi Hannemann also will be handing out the fans on game day outside the main stadium entrance from 2 hours prior to kick-off.

Where: Marriott New Orleans, 555 Canal St., room TBA (look for signs) and at the Superdome on game day.

Rules: One fan per Sugar Bowl ticket shown (no Hawaii ID or UH shirt or some other proof of being a Hawaii fan requested).

Fans will also be distributed by sponsors at various hotels from 12/30, and any leftover fans will be handed out by Rainbowtique staff at the stadium.

"The fans will serve as a unifier of the UH supporters in the stands — along with the white-out requested by coach June Jones, and also be a great souvenir of our first Sugar Bowl," said Mona Wood of Ikaika Communications.

In addition, 14,000 ti leaves also will be handed out to UH fans at the Marriott and the stadium, while supplies last, brought to you by Green Point Nursery (Hilo), Eric Tanouye, Victor Kimura, and Dennis Enomoto.
