State won't help with tax returns

Advertiser Staff

The state Department of Taxation won't help with preparation of individual income tax returns beginning in January and is directing people to volunteer services that are coordinated by the Aloha United Way and others.

The department said the volunteers recruited and coordinated by the Aloha United Way's Family and Individual Self-Sufficiency Program and the AARP will help people fill out their 2007 state Individual Income Tax Resident Short Forms between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Jan 2. to 25, at the Princess Ruth Keelikolani Building at 830 Punchbowl St.

The state said the service will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Taxpayers should bring a photo ID and sign in with security personnel.

Other taxpayer assistance with state and federal returns will be available Feb. 1 to April 20 through volunteers at various locations.

The state said a listing of sites and hours can be obtained by calling 211 after Jan. 6.
