Sample haupia and check out a new year's kadomatsu display while learning about how two wonder plants are tapped for food, shelter and cultural expression at the Coconut & Bamboo Festival, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Ward Center and Ward Warehouse. Demonstrations include: printing on paper and fabric with incised bamboo stamps, weaving coconut leaves, using a bamboo fude (brush) to write new year's greetings, and framing a tissue- paper Filipino parol (star) with bamboo. Admission is free.
