Bristol, Tenn. — A first-quarter 9-0 run propelled 'Iolani to an early lead it never relinquished in a 72-64 victory over Sullivan East, Tenn., in the Arby's Classic boys basketball tournament yesterday.

The victory allows 'Iolani (5-5) to advance to the second round of the loser's bracket of the tournament.

The Raiders will play today at 5:30 a.m., Hawai'i time, for the right to play for sixth place on Monday at 9:30 a.m., Hawai'i time.

'Iolani enjoyed a 10-point or greater lead for much of the game against Sullivan East (13-4), a public school of 1,000 students located 10 miles south of Viking Hall where the tournament is being played.

The Raiders' biggest advantage came early in the third quarter when Pablo Warner, who led 'Iolani with 20 points, scored for a 40-23 advantage.

The key to victory was controlling the boards and avoiding turnovers, the latter of which plagued the Raiders in the closing moments of their 67-62 loss to Father Henry Carr of Toronto, Ontario, on Thursday.

'Iolani was able to outrebound the similarly sized Patriots, 44-30, and committed 11 turnovers to Sullivan East's 17.

Also in double figures for 'Iolani were center Taylor Mounts and guard Kela Marciel, who had 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Sullivan East guard Issac Snapp, a small-college prospect known for his outside shooting ability, led all scorers with 28 points.
