AAA Hawaii offering free tow for drivers who drink

Advertiser Staff

Through New Year's Day, AAA Hawaii is offering free "Tipsy Tow" rides to take home drivers who have been drinking and their vehicles.

Since Sunday and continuing through New Year's Day, people can call 800-400-4AAA (42222) for a free tow home of up to seven miles.

Callers simply have to say "I need a Tipsy Tow," and a AAA Hawaii-contracted emergency roadside assistance truck will be dispatched for a free tow and ride home.

The one-way, one-time service excludes rides for passengers, and the destination is restricted to the driver's residence.

Drivers will be charged the tow truck contractor's rate for rides farther than seven miles.

Reservations are not accepted.

"Some guests might balk a cab home because they don't want to return for their car the following day," said Richard Velasquez, regional manager for AAA Hawaii.
