HECO urging revelers to use fireworks wisely

Advertiser Staff

People celebrating New Year's Eve tonight can help prevent power outages for tomorrow's Allstate Sugar Bowl telecast by not stringing firecrackers and fireworks on utility poles, Hawaiian Electric Co. officials say.

HECO will double its number of troubleshooters during tomorrow's airing of the Sugar Bowl but say people can help out tonight.

"The public can do its part by not stringing firecrackers on utility poles, which can result in outages and injuries," said HECO spokesman Darren Pai. "We urge the public to use common sense. Don't string firecrackers on utility poles."
