HECO repairs now leave only handful without power

Advertiser Staff

Engineers and repair crews have restored power Thursday morning to all but 33 Hawaiian Electric Co. customers whose electricity went out because of strong winds Wednesday and today, a spokeswoman said.

That tally, however, does not include scattered individual customers whose homes are without power but whose neighborhoods are fully restored, said Sharon Higa, a HECO spokeswoman.

If possible, they are urged to call 548-7961 to report their problems, she said.

Crews are still working to restore power to 15 customers on Poamoho Street above Hale'iwa and another 18 customers in Mokule'ia, Higa said.

Since early Wednesday morning, strong southwest winds have cut power to about 30,000 customers across O'ahu. But HECO was not ready to say its problems are over.

"Things can change," Higa said. "It is still a little windy out there."
