Kane'ohe Marine Base was hit with a 41-mph wind gust at 2 a.m. and gusts have been higher in other areas, National Weather Service forecaster Robert Ballard said Thursday morning."It's going down as the cold front passes, but it's likely some areas are still seeing gusts at 50 mph," Ballard said. "Until we get this cold front through, blasts will be pretty good."
A wind advisory for most of O'ahu, Maui County and the Big Island remains in effect until 4 p.m., the weather service said. People are urged to continue to take precautions to protect their possessions.
The winds on O'ahu are strongest in the windward areas, Ballard said. He urges travelers to watch for downed power lines and debris.
A high-wind warning remains in effect for the summits on the Big Island and Maui.
Also in the wind-advisory areas are Kaua'i and the lower elevations of Maui and the Big Island.
