Like-new prom dresses on sale Feb. 10 at La Pietra

Advertiser Staff

The Second Annual Girls Just Wanna Have Fun just-like new prom dress sale is scheduled 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 10 at La Pietra, 2933 Poni Moi Road at the base of Diamond Head.

"More dresses, more fun," says Nanci Kreidman, executive director of The Domestic Violence Clearinghouse and Legal Hotline, the sale sponsor and agency to which the proceeds go.

"The sale was such a success last year that plans for this year's sale were underway immediately after the first sale."

Schools on O'ahu coordinated efforts to collect dresses from their student families during the fall and after the holidays, to include dresses worn to winter balls as a part of the sale this year.

La Pietra, St Andrews Priory, Mid Pacific Institute, Mary Knoll and Punahou encouraged their school families to make donations. The Oahu Wedding Association also contributed dresses this year.

The Domestic Violence Clearinghouse and Legal Hotline has the goal of educating young women about the potential and perils of dating abuse. The Teen Alert program, at The Domestic Violence Clearinghouse, is helping school faculty, youth programs, and young people understand teen dating issues to prevent dating abuse.

At the Girls Just Wanna Have Fun sale, a jewelry vendor will be on site, and there will be a raffle for hair and make-up prizes for use on prom day. Refreshments will be sold for shopping-mates.
