BYUH tops Hilo, 86-56

Wu Tai-hao scored 16 points as Brigham Young-Hawai'i defeated Hawai'i-Hilo, 86-56, Wednesday night in a Pacific West Conference men's basketball game at Cannon Activities Center in La'ie.

Trenson Akana added 13 points and helped ignite a 14-2 run in the final three minutes of the half as the Seasiders (15-5, 7-1 PacWest) surged ahead 40-28 at the intermission.

Akana scored five points, including a 3-pointer that put BYUH ahead to stay at 29-26, and Corey Nielson added seven points during the surge.

Rashad Bilal and Vince Alvarado each scored 12 points, and Justin Dobson added 11 for the Vulcans (8-12, 5-3), who closed to 43-38 early in the second half but could not get any closer.

WILY PROPELS SEASIDER WOMEN PAST VULCANS

Latoya Wily had 20 points and 13 rebounds as Brigham Young-Hawai'i defeated Hawai'i-Hilo, 61-53, Wednesday night in a Pacific West Conference women's basketball game at Cannon Activities Center in La'ie.

Kayla Burningham added 20 points and nine rebounds for the Seasiders (9-10 overall, 6-2 PacWest).

Amy Kaaiakamanu scored 14 points, Krystlelyn Omlan 11 and Sheila Azevedo 10 for the Vulcans (3-13, 2-6).
