Hawaiian Electric Co. officials said at 11 p.m. that power has been restored to the Wilson Tunnel on the Likelike Highway.

HECO said after Department of Transportation workers examine the lighting system and make any necessary repairs or adjustments, the lights should be back on.

That process was expected to take about an hour.

The tunnel's lights have been off all day because of a damaged shield wire on a utility pole, located above the tunnel.

HECO spokesman Peter Rosegg said the pole was "in a fairly inaccessible area" and that made repairs difficult.
