10-minute power outage leads to swarm of alarm calls
Advertiser Staff
When electrical service was lost for about 10 minutes to various communities around O'ahu, beginning about 12:25 a.m. on Friday, police and firefighters had to scramble to respond to a number of what are called "activated alarms."When electrical service is lost to homes or businesses protected by alarms, a signal is sent to police or firefighters indicating there is a problem.
Each alarm must be checked out to ensure a fire hasn't started or that a crime is not in progress.
In most cases, homeowners and business are contacted and asked to reset the alarms.
