150 to lose jobs as Hawaii Medical Center cuts costs

Hawaii Medical Center LLC officials today confirmed it would lay off about 150 employees or about 10 percent of the staff at the former St. Francis hospitals.

Hawaii Medical completed its $46.5 million purchase of St. Francis last month and is restructuring the money-losing hospitals.

Hawaii Medical officials initially planned to rely on attrition, and not layoffs, to restructure. But St. Francis' finances worsened during the past eight months, said company spokesman Chris Parsons.
