Sailor with tie to Kane'ohe Bay killed in combat in Iraq

A 22-year-old sailor assigned to a Marine battalion from Kane'ohe Bay was killed Thursday during combat operations in Iraq, the Department of Defense announced.

Hospitalman Matthew G. Conte, of Mogadore, Ohio, was killed by enemy forces in the Al Anbar Province in Iraq.

Conte was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, from Marine Corps Base, Hawai'i at Kane'ohe Bay. He was serving as a hospital corpsman in Iraq.
