Big Island police department promotes 3

Three members of the Hawai'i Police Department have been promoted from lieutenant to captain effective Feb. 1.

Duane Rapoza is now in charge of the training section in the Administrative Services Division, while James O'Connor commands the Ka'u District, and James Sanborn commands the North Kohala District.

Rapoza, fills a position left vacant last month when Jay Enanoria was promoted from captain to major. Rapoza previously worked in the communications-dispatch section.

O'Connor fills a position left vacant when Capt. Marshall Kanehailua transferred to the Internal Affairs and Criminal Intelligence Unit. Before the promotion, O'Connor headed the department's special response team.

Sanborn fills a position that has been vacant for several months. He previously was in charge of community policing.
