Quake rumbles under sea floor near Saipan

A moderate earthquake occurred at 1:03 a.m. today Hawai'i time in an area east of Saipan, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The temblor, which was assigned a preliminary magnitude of 5.0, was centered at a depth of about 6.2 miles and about 75 miles east of Saipan.
There were no reports of damage or injuries.
