Advertiser Staff

Kris Sanchez doubled home the only two runs for Hawai'i in a 2-1 win against Georgia Southern Saturday to take 2 of 3 in the nonconference baseball series at Les Murakami Stadium.

Josh Schneider made his first start of the season for UH, going five scoreless innings, allowing six hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

Tyler Davis (1-0) pitched four innings of relief, allowing a run on four hits for the Rainbows (4-2).

The Rainbows broke the no-hitter and shutout with two outs in the bottom of the sixth. Justin Frash lined a single to left and took second when Brandon Haislet grounded a single up the middle. The hot-hitting Kris Sanchez then grounded a two-run double down the right-field line to give UH a 2-0 lead. Sanchez took third on a passed ball, but Evan Zimny struck out to end the inning.

The Eagles got a run in the top of the seventh. Jeremy Beckham was hit by a pitch to start the inning and took second on Matt Millers' single to right-center. Mike Economos grounded to third for a force at second before Griffin Benedict's foul fly to left scored Beckham.

Freshman Brian Wilkerson (0-1) gave up two runs on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts in six innings for the Eagles (1-2).
