A 12-year-old boy was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in serious condition yesterday after he was hit by a truck as he sat on a curb in Kapolei, officials said.

The driver was being sought yesterday after failing to stop after hitting the boy. It is unclear if the driver fled the scene or was unaware that a pedestrian was struck.

The accident occurred about 7:30 a.m. near Lexington Street and Roosevelt Avenue about a quarter-mile east of Barbers Point Elementary School.

The boy was sitting on the curb with his feet in the street when the truck, making a right turn, hopped the curb and hit him.

The 12-year-old suffered leg injuries and remained hospitalized in serious condition yesterday.

Correction: A 12-year-old boy who was injured Friday morning when a car ran over his legs as he sat on a curb at the former Barbers Point Naval Air Station is a sixth-grader at Kapolei Middle School. A previous version of this story misidentified the school the boy attends.
