Police keep watch on roving pack of 300 cars

Advertiser Staff

Police kept tabs early this morning on a roving group of "street racers" and their souped up cars, which numbered upwards of 300 at one point when the pack headed up H-3 Freeway toward Kane'ohe at about 12:30 a.m.

There were scattered reports earlier of cars and drivers staging at various places, including the McDonald's Restaurant of Ka Uka Boulevard in Waipio Gentry, and near Circuit City at Pearlridge Shopping Center.

The group of cars headed toward Kane'ohe at about 12:30 a.m., made it across the Ko'olau range and headed back toward Aloha Stadium about 15 minutes later.

Police dispatchers asked patrol officers who were monitoring the situation to make their presence known.

As the pack of cars headed back over H-3 toward the airport at about 12:45 a.m., police said the drivers appeared to be obeying the traffic laws.
