Man, 100, injured in car accident

Advertiser Staff

A 100-year-old man was critically injured today when the 1989 Honda station wagon his wife was driving veered off Dole Street, struck a concrete bench and wedged itself between a metal utility pole and large tree on the sidewalk near the entrance to Kanewai Park's pavilion.

The woman, 82, told police she dozed off. The crash was reported at 2:31 p.m. and forced the closure of a section of Dole Street from Kanewai Street to East-West Road to traffic for nearly three hours.

The woman, who suffered serious injury, and her husband were taken to The Queen's Medical Center.

No other injuries were reported. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors, police said.
