UH's Gibson is WAC basketball Player of the Week

University of Hawaii guard Matt Gibson has been named the Western Athletic Conference men's basketball player of the week.Gibson, a junior from Oklahoma City, Okla., averaged 16.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists in three games last week. UH won two of the games and barely lost to nationally ranked Nevada.
Against Utah State, Gibson came off the bench and tied a season-high with 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field. He then returned to the starting lineup at Fresno State and scored 19 points and tied his career-high with nine rebounds. In the loss at Nevada, he had 11 points and dished out seven assists.
For the week, he was 17-of-35 from the field, including 8-of-16 from three point range. He also made 8-of-10 free throws and had four steals.
It is Gibson's first career WAC Player of the Week award and second for a Rainbow Warrior player this year.
