Libraries benefit from tax check-off box option

Advertiser Staff

Taxpayers are again being invited to check off a box on their 2006 income tax form that would allow them to give $2 for an individual and $4 for a joint return to support the Hawai'i State Public Library System.

Last year $60,500 was collected through this measure, enabling the state's public libraries to buy additional copies of children's books and a variety of adult books published about Hawai'i.

Since the state Legislature enacted this check-off box provision in 2004, a total of $152,700 has been collected from taxpayers to benefit the state's libraries.

Money collected in this way goes into the Hawai'i State Public Library System special fund.
