Recycle Hawai'i has chosen E-World Recyclers of California to assist with the cleanup of electronic waste produced by the earthquakes that rattled the Hawaiian Islands on Oct. 15.The majority of the electronic waste is in the form of damaged televisions and computers from the island's resort hotels along the North Kona and Kohala coast, according to today's news release from eworldwire.
E-World Recyclers, located in Vista, Calif., regularly provides recycling services for Hawai'i e-waste. It has been contracted to handle approximately 40 tons of commercial e-waste.
Electronic waste contributes approximately 1 percent to 4 percent of the municipal solid waste stream. Discarded electronic devices contain toxic materials such as lead, mercury and cadmium, and selected e-wastes have been banned from landfills in California since March of 2001.
