Police Beat: Woman found in stolen-car trunk arrested

Police arrested a 39-year-old woman in Waipahu yesterday after they found her in the trunk of a car that was reported stolen Friday from a rental company near the airport.

Police were checking the area about noon when they found the woman in the trunk of the car.

A check of the car's license plate numbers revealed that it had been reported stolen.

Police said two witnesses came forward and identified the woman who drove the car to the spot where it was found.

The driver was then arrested on suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.

Four arrests in baseball-bat beating incident

Two men and two boys were arrested in Liliha last night after they allegedly beat two 19-year-old men and a 21-year-old man with baseball bats in a dispute over stolen auto parts.

The men were arrested about 8:50 p.m. in the 700-block of Panui Street on suspicion of second-degree assault.

Inmate dies after collapse in Halawa prison yard

Police are investigating the death of a 44-year-old man who yesterday was found unconscious in an exercise yard at the state's sprawling Halawa prison complex.

Approximately 25 inmates were in the recreation yard about 5:45 p.m. when one of them collapsed and became unresponsive, police said.

He was taken to an area hospital and was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police were told that the man who died had no serious medical issues.

Motorist arrested in tie to stolen car, drug offenses

A 31-year-old man was arrested yesterday afternoon at a beach park in 'Ewa after police reported seeing the man driving around the park about 3 p.m. in a car that had no license plates.

Police checked on the car and learned it had been reported stolen.

The driver was then arrested on suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, third-degree promotion of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.
