Ochoa, Kimberly Kim headline SBS Open field

Advertiser Staff

Lorena Ochoa, the reigning LPGA Player of the Year, and U.S. Women's Amateur champion Kimberly Kim highlight the field at the SBS Open at Turtle Bay, Feb. 15 to 17 at the Turtle Bay's Palmer Course.

The tournament is the first of two Hawai'i events that open the LPGA season. The Fields Open in Hawai'i will be played the following week at Ko Olina Golf Club.

Ochoa beat out Karrie Webb for the Player of the Year award, ending a five-year reign by Annika Sorenstam. Webb also is entered in the SBS Open. Sorenstam is skipping the event.

Kim, a former Big Island resident now living in Arizona, became the youngest U.S. Women's Amateur, last August. She will play in both Hawai'i LPGA events on sponsor's invitations.

Others in the SBS Open field include defending champion Joo Mi Kim and defending Fields Open champion Meena Lee, Natalie Gulbis, Pat Hurst, Juli Inkster, Se Ri Pak, Paula Creamer, Morgan Pressel, former UH golfer Cindy Rarick, Jennifer Rosales and Ai Miyazato.

Michelle Wie, who finished third in the SBS Open last year, will not be playing this year while she receives therapy on an injured wrist.
