WWII internment camps up for discussion at Chaminade

Chaminade University's spring Fujitani Lecture Program, titled "Fear of the Differences," will focus on experiences tied to World War II internment camps.

The program, set for 2 to 7 p.m. Feb. 24, will be held at the university's Ching Conference Center, on the second floor of Eiben Hall.

Duncan Williams, a Soto Zen Buddhist priest and professor of Japanese Buddhism at University of California Berkeley, will discuss "Japanese-American Buddhists and the World War II Internment Camps."

Tom Coffman will introduce "The First Battle," his documentary on the two years leading up to World War II internment camp years.

The Rev. David Hirano of Central Union Church will discuss his father's internment experience and the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Tanaka, president of the International Association of Shin Buddhist Studies, will moderate a panel discussion with Hakim Ouansafi, president of the Muslim Association of Hawaii, and University of Hawai'i law professor Jon Van Dyke.
