Hawaiian Telcom Awarded $530,000 to Local Nonprofits in 2006
HONOLULU – Hawaiian Telcom awarded more than $530,000 to Hawaii nonprofit organizations last year. The donations were made through its Hoolaulima Program, which provides financial support and creates partnerships with local nonprofit groups.
"While our focus continues to be smoothing out transitional issues and restoring customer service, we're committed to the communities we serve," said CEO Mike Ruley. "Despite the challenging times, we remain focused on what's important and I'm proud to say we supported many of Hawaii's nonprofits."
In addition, Hawaiian Telcom employees gave generously of their own time and dollars to support numerous community projects, including Habitat for Humanity's Build-A-Thon, American Diabetes Association's Walk for Diabetes, Hawaiian Humane Society's PetWalk and the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Employees also support the company's quarterly Adopt-A-Highway clean up efforts and blood drives.
Hawaiian Telcom's Hoolaulima Program primarily focuses on organizations involved in education with an emphasis on the application of technology and work-force development. Grant requests are reviewed quarterly. Deadlines are Jan.1, April 1, July 1 and Oct. 1. For more details, visit the "Community" section at www.hawaiiantel.com
