Japanese Cultural Center to hold Hokule'a exhibition

Advertiser Staff

As Hawai'i's enduring symbol of the Hawaiian renaissance, the voyaging canoe Hokule'a, makes its way to Japan, next month the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i will open "Navigating Cultural Connections: H?k?le'a's Voyage to Japan."

The show will explore the historical and cultural connection between Hawai'i and Japan that was established more than 150 years ago when King David Kal?kaua met with the Emperor Meiji of Japan.

Gallery visitors will also be able to follow the progress and current status of the H?k?le'a as it makes its way across the Pacific.

The show will open at 11:30 a.m. on March 3 and run through Friday, June 1. Gallery Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Admission: Free for JCCH members; $3 for Hawai'i residents; $5 for non-residents.
