WAIPIO — Sophomore Beth Gallarde scored two goals as Pearl City defeated Kamehameha-Maui, 6-2, Wednesday in the first round of the Meadow Gold Dairies Girls Soccer Division I State Championships at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Park.

Pearl City (12-2-2) plays Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion and No. 4 seed Konawaena in the first quarterfinal at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Main Stadium. Kamehameha-Maui (10-3-2) falls into consolation play.

The Chargers struck first on a header by Gallarde in the 10th minute. Gallarde ran across the front of the goal and redirected the pass from Nestle Yamaguchi past the goalie.
