Josephine "Jo" Flanders, whose imprint was left on a galaxy of Island stars in shows she choreographed and produced, died Tuesday at the Hilo Life Care Facility on the Big Island. She was 92.

In 1952, Flanders established the Punahou Dance School, which became a springboard for scores of campus and community dance spectacles that eventually led Flanders to a career of producing and developing stars and shows for Waikiki hotels.

Among her former pupils were Wisa D'Orso and Juleste Salve, who appeared in Broadway musicals, and Leilani Jones, who earned a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical.

With her late husband William Drew Flanders, she opened a talent management company. Among the Island lights she worked with were Don Ho, Danny Kaleikini, Hilo Hattie, Trummy Young, Ed Kenney, Beverly Noa, Ron Miyashiro and Loyal Garner.
