Lingle to update Leeward area on homelessness efforts

Advertiser Staff

Gov. Linda Lingle heads back to the Leeward Coast tomorrow to talk about progress made on issues tied to homelessness.

Lingle will update the community on her administration's efforts along O'ahu's Leeward Coast from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wai'anae District Park's multipurpose room, 85-601 Farrington Highway.

The meeting, which follows up one held in June, will include discussion about bringing together homeless advocates, service providers, faith-based organizations, lawmakers, community leaders, the private sector, military and state and county agencies to address the problem of homelessness in the Leeward Coast area.

Since that summer meeting, the state opened the Onelau'ena transitional shelter in Kalaeloa in October and is preparing to open the Wai'anae Civic Center shelter later this month.
