Pedestrian, 90, dies from accident-related head injury

Advertiser Staff

A 90-year-old Honolulu man died Thursday from head injuries suffered nearly two weeks earlier when he was hit by a car while crossing Liliha Street, the medical examiner. He is the seventh pedestrian to die this year.

William Shimabuku was "slightly nudged" by a car about 9:30 a.m. Jan. 19 and fell, striking the back of his head near the H-1 Freeway's Liliha on-ramp, according to the city's Emergency Medical Services Division. He was taken to The Queen's Medical Center.

The medical examiner said Shimabuku was released from the hospital about a week later and was found in the living room of his apartment. An autopsy determined the cause of death was blunt force injuries in his head suffered during the accident.
