Jones announces UH's letter-of-intent signings

University of Hawai'i Warrior football coach June Jones announced 13 signings at a press conference in the Stan Sheriff Center this morning.

"We really think we addressed our needs, especially on the offensive and defensive lines," Jones said. "If you take a look, most of these guys are Polynesian or have a Polynesian tie-in. Some went away and came home and others have family here on the island. So it was good to get those guys. A few of these players, from the Mainland, we would have never got before, but because of the hard work of (defensive line coach) Jeff Reinebold, we did and they will be a great addition to our program."

Of the 13 players, five are potential offensive linemen, including Austin Hansen (6-4, 285, Valencia High School), Levi Legay (6-3, 270, Kealakeha High), Matagisila Lefiti (6-1, 290, Mater Dei High), John Manu-Olevao (6-3, 315, Kahuku High), and Drew Uperesa (6-2, 245, Punahou School).

Lefiti can play on either side of the ball and is joined by three others on the defensive front in ends Christopher Leatigaga (6-5, 250, Foothill College) and Joshua Leonard (6-4, 275, Sierra College), and defensive tackle Vaughn Meatoga (6-2, 280, Kamehameha Schools).

Cornerback Ryan Mouton (5-10, 185, Blinn CC), and safeties Erik Robinson (5-11, 195, Navarro CC) and Elijah Lesu (5-10, 180, Farrington High) are expected to fill in gaps in the defensive backfield.

Lesu can also play wide receiver, where the Warriors signed Jeremiah Ostrowski (5-9, 170, Punahou School) and Gabe Tuata (5-6, 170, Kealakeha High). Tuata is likely to also get a shot a running back where he played at Kealakehe.
