Honolulu slips to 10th from 2nd on list of fittest cities

Advertiser Staff

It may be time for folks in Honolulu to start visiting the gym a little more often.

Honolulu slipped to 10th place from second place last year in Men's Fitness magazine's annual ranking of fittest cities. The magazine looked at how much residents exercise, healthy-eating habits, gym use, junk food consumption and amount of time in traffic to come up with its list.

The magazine identified Alburqueque, N.M., as the fittest city.

On the opposite end of the spectrum it said Las Vegas is the fattest city, in part because of the high number of fast-food restaurants found in America's gambling capital.

The country's most athletic city was Milwaukee, while Memphis was spotlighted as the one that watches the most television.

Oakland, Calif., was the best city when it came to eating habits, the magazine said. The results appear in the March issue of the periodical.
