Discussion set to address Kailua Bay water quality

Advertiser Staff

Improving the quality of Kailua Bay will be the subject of discussion from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Kalapawai Cafe, 750 Kailua Road.

The discussion will center around creating an entity such as a land trust for Kailua that would be used to hold and protect land that has an impact on Kailua Bay, said Jim Wood, meeting organizer.

"The quality of the bay is impacted by what goes into it." said Wood, a project facilitator for the Windward Ahupua'a Alliance. "If the quality of the water that goes into the bay is improved, it will have a positive impact on the bay."

Wood said there have been discussions with government, organizations and landowners concerned about the issue and he is looking for people who are willing to support and initiate action.
