GIRL TALK: With Jasmine Trias joining the Society of Seven in the group's Las Vegas shows at the Flamingo hotel Feb. 15 through March 18 (while regular songstress-impressionist Lani Misalucha promotes a hot new solo CD in her native Philippines) the question of reformulating the Honolulu-based Society of Seven Las Vegas to welcome a female presence appears imminent. At least, that's the buzz — that Anna Marie Love, lately of The Krush (she also fronts Anna Marie and the Elements) may join the show at the Outrigger Waikiki's showroom. Trias won't "replace" Misalucha with impersonations of female vocal icons. Instead, she'll do production numbers with the SOS, with some choreography. One tune she's tackling is the "Dreamgirls" show-stopper "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going," which has catapulted Jennifer Hudson to stardom and award-worthy loftiness. ...

SIGHT 'EMS: Roy's in Hawai'i Kai was the place to be Saturday. Among the diners: actor Josh Holloway, who plays Sawyer on "Lost." In the banquet room: The Cheetah Girls, amid a party of 80. The teen popsters also popped in to Tiki's Grill & Bar for post-show food and views. ...

Bill Tapia, the 99-year-old 'ukulele whiz, was a charmer at the Royal Hawaiian hotel's 80th anniversary do last week, when vintage Matson menu artworks were unveiled. Talk about full circle — Tapia played at the Pink Palace's opening in 1927 and its 75th anniversary. ...

Jimmy Borges checked out Augie Rey and the Little Big Band at the Tower Grill, then joined the band to sing "Without Love There Is Nothing." Borges does his Valentine's Day concert at Mid-Pacific Country Club on Wednesday, backed by pianist Betty Loo Taylor, bassist Steve Jones, drummer Sonny Froman and saxophonist Tim Tsukiyama. Shari Lynn is special guest. ...

The Honolulu Jazz Quartet's performance at Studio 6 last week started as a tribute to the late saxophonist Michael Brecker and wound up as a salute to Abe Weinstein, the Hawai'i International Jazz Festival founder, who died Jan. 29. "One of the tunes we did was 'Honeysuckle Rose,' which Abe taught me on a gig over 20 years ago," said HJQ founder John Kolivas. ...

NAMES 'N' FACES: KFC will be on the menu in a President's Day concert at 7 p.m. Feb. 19 at Pohai Nani in Kane'ohe, but it's not the colonel's secret recipe. KFC is Keith and Carmen Haugen, sometimes referred to as K&C. The F comes from guest pakini (washtub) bassman Frank Uehara; hence, KFC. Haugen calls the formula "finger-lickin' Hawaiian music." Uehara, a whiz of a slack-key guitarist as well, is the son of George Uehara, longtime executive chef at the Columbia Inn when it was next door to The Advertiser. Betty, the musician's late mom, used to be a waitress there and very much of the Tosh Kaneshiro 'ohana. If you're an Ala Wai Golf Course regular, you may know Frank from his daytime job. The KFC show is open to the public; KFC also performs Fridays at the Waikiki Beach Walk project. ...

Time flies when you're having fun: The Makaha Sons will mark their 31st anniversary on Feb. 22. They'll be working that night — from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. — at Chai's Island Bistro. During a gig at Chai's earlier this month, Jerome Koko asked the audience, "How many of you here tonight found out about us performing at Chai's through Wayne Harada's column in The Honolulu Advertiser?" Surprisingly, three-fourths of the house raised hands. Glad to be of service. ...

Island musician Ken Emerson is a performer on the Grammy-nominated "Morph the Cat" by Steely Dan's Donald Fagen and also is working on projects with Todd Rundgren and Chris Clark. Emerson plans to be at the Grammys on Sunday in Los Angeles — to cheer for Fagen as well as the five nominees for Best Hawaiian Album. ...
