DJ Nancy Ortiz looking for Hawai'i's first 'Latino Idol'

Nancy N. Ortiz, of the Hispanic Center of Hawai'i, is searching for candidates specializing in Latin or Hispanic music, to become Hawai'i's Latino Idol.
The top 10 candidates would participate in a sing-out between March 2 and May 2, at Panama Hattie's, the 'Aiea nightclub, at 99-016 Kamehameha Hwy.
The winner will earn a $1,000 cash award and will record a single CD that will be featured in the 7th Annual Salsathon June 14 through 17.
Ortiz, who this year celebrates the 30th anniversary of her her "Alma Latina Radio Show" on KWAI-1080 AM, is coordinating the contest.
Sign-ups are possible every Friday, through Feb. 23, during "La Zona Latina," at Panama Hattie's.
Entrants must be 18 and older and perform a tune with a Spanish or Latin flavor. A head shot and a one-page bio must be submitted at the time of entry.
Deadline to register is Feb. 23.
