Advertiser Staff

Ian Harrington pitched seven strong innings and Kris Sanchez drove in six runs and hit a grand slam to propel Hawai'i over Pacific, 13-1, last night at Les Murakami Stadium. It was the Rainbows' third consecutive win.

Harrington (2-1) went seven innings, allowing a run, four hits and one walk with a career-high nine strikeouts for UH (5-2). Craig Johnson made his season debut with two scoreless innings of relief.

David Rowse (0-2) allowed eight runs, seven hits and three walks with three strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings for the Tigers (2-3).

Hawai'i sent nine batters to the plate in a six-run third that was highlighted by a grand slam by Sanchez. Landon Hernandez led off with a single to right and one out later scored on Jorge Franco's triple to right-center. Franco scored on Nate Young's single to right that was followed by back-to-back walks to Justin Frash and Brandon Haislet to load the bases and set up Sanchez's slam to give UH a 6-0 lead.

Pacific got one back in the fourth. Joe Oliveira and Justin Baum hit successive singles to put runners at first and second before Jason Haar flied out to deep left. Mike Walker singled up the middle to load the bases that was followed by Greg Murray's sacrifice fly to right to make it 6-1. Kurt Wideman struck out to end the inning.

The Rainbows chased Rowse in the fourth. Hernandez led off with a double to right center. He took third on Vinnie Catricala's deep fly to right before Franco walked. After Franco stole second, Young grounded a single off the pitching rubber into center for a two-run single to make it 8-1. Rowse was yanked for Brett Manning. Frash hit a hard grounder to second that hit Young, who was called out for interference, for a single. Haislet also singled to put runners at first and second but Sanchez fled out to left to end the inning.

The Rainbows kept on hitting in the sixth. With one out, Franco walked and stole second and Young walked. Frash's double to right-center scored Franco and sent Young to third. After Haislet struck out, Sanchez flared a single to left-center for two runs to make it 11-1 and ending Manning's night for Cole Akins, who retired Christensen on a liner to short.

Hawai'i scored again in the seventh, this time against former Rainbow Isaac Kamai (Kamehameha 2003). Wtih two outs, Catricala and Franco drew back-to-back walks. Young's double to right scored Catricala and sent Franco to third. Frash walked to load the bases, but Haislet flied out to center to end the inning with UH up 12-1.

The Rainbows added a run in the eighth when Kevin Macdonald led off with a single and scored on Christensen's double to make it 13-1.
