O'Brien wins Monster Energy Pro surfing crown

Jamie O'Brien made himself at home to win the Monster Energy Pro surfing contest today at the Banzai Pipeline.

O'Brien, who lives in a house right in front of the Pipeline waves, dominated the final day of competition to win the $10,000 first prize.

The final day was run in difficult 6- to 8-foot waves.

O'Brien received scores of 8.0 and 7.25 in the final for his two best barrel rides for a total score of 15.25.

Mark Mathews of Australia placed second, 2006 champion Rob Machado of California was third, and Kaua'i's Gavin Gillette was fourth.
