Teen sensation Tadd Fujikawa shot a 3-under-par 69 today and is tied for ninth with half the field through the first round of the 29th Hawaii Pearl Open at Pearl Country Club.

Junpei Takayama, a 23-year-old Japanese pro, is the clubhouse leader at 8-under 64. Oahu Country Club head pro Andrew Feldmann is second at 66 and former champion Greg Meyer is in a group of five at 67.

Fujikawa, 16, who last month became the youngest golfer in 50 years to make a PGA Tour cut, recorded two eagles, three birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey for nines of 34-35.

He opened with eagle on the par-5 first hole, sinking a 35-foot putt.

Fujikawa birdied the par-4 fifth, but bogeyed the par-4 ninth.

On the back nine, he birdied the par-4 10th and par-5 12th. But he three-putted from 10 feet for double bogey-6 on the 15th, then hit his drive in the water on the next hole. Fujikawa salvaged bogey there with a 10-foot putt, then rallied with another eagle, from 15 feet on the par-5 17th.
