6 hurt in crash on Big Island

Six people, including a baby girl, were taken to Kona Hospital after a two-car collision at about 2 p.m. Friday afternoon.

The accident occurred in the southbound lane of Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway, in the Kailua-Kona area of the Big Island.

The crash happened about a quarter-mile south of the junction with Hina Lani Road.

Big Island fire officials said that one of the cars burst into flames after the impact.

The drivers and passengers of both vehicles were able to get out before emergency responders arrived.

No information was available on the injuries to the crash victims or their severity.
