A nationally known flatpicking guitarist whose artistry has won him championships and bluegrass fame will give a workshop Feb. 17 at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa.

Mark Cosgrove has won the U.S. National Flatpicking Guitar Championship in Winfield, Kan., and also the Doc Watson Guitar Championship in Wilkesboro, N.C. He is equally proficient in any number of musical styles and as an accompanist.

Bluegrass Hawaii, Collings Guitars and Hawaii Music Supply are assisting in the work-shop.

Those attending the workshop must bring their own guitars; at a minimum, strummers should know the three to eight basic open chords, be able to strum and change chords readily and be comfortable using a pick.
