Wichmann sets UH hurdles mark

The University of Hawai'i women's track and field team, spurred by Annett Wichmann's school record in the 60-meter hurdles, defeated Cal Poly, 67-56, yesterday in a dual meet that was part of the University of Washington Indoor Open.

Wichmann clocked 9.04 seconds to place third and eclipse Candace Rosenthal's previous record of 9.07. Wichmann also placed second in the long jump (17 feet, 9? inches).

In other noteworthy efforts:

i Senior Novelle Murray won the weight toss (60-1?) and sophomore Meghan Weaver placed second (51-8›).

i Junior Chantelle Laan placed second in the mile (5:08.82) and fifth in the 800 (2:19.09).

i Sophomore Emily Sheppard placed second in the high jump (5-7).

i Senior Ashley Monfort placed third in the 600 (1:38.95).

i Senior Mallory Gilbert tied for fourth in the high jump (5-5) and sixth in the long jump (17-4·).

On Saturday at the Husky Classic, UH established eight personal bests led by Murray's weight toss of 64 feet, 1? inches, which beat her previous best by more than three feet. It was also an NCAA provisional mark.

Weaver (54-9A) and Brittani Daniels (46-5A) also set personal bests with their throws.

Laan finished the 3,000-meter run in 9:59.55 to beat her previous best by 12 seconds.

Also setting personal bests were Aileen Ramos in the 60 (8.69 seconds) and 400 (1:05.89), Sharlene Carillo in the 800 (2:19.52), and Tava Tedesco in the mile (5:20.78).
