Driver sought in death of 2-year-old Big Island girl

Advertiser Staff

Big Island police are looking for the driver of a car who ran over a 2-year-old girl yesterday in the Orchidland Subdivision in Puna.

The girl, Abygail Arquitola, was with her family at a friend's house on 38th Avenue when someone ran her over at the rear of the property last evening.

The driver left the scene, possibly not knowing that the child had been hit, police said.

The girl was taken by firefighters to Hilo Medical Center, where she died at 7:19 p.m.

Anyone with information is asked to call officer Andres Fojas at (808) 961-8889.

Police have initiated a standard negligent-homicide investigation and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
