Man held in Kaua'i pavilion fire

Advertiser Staff

Kaua'i police have charged David Aguiar, 38, of Wailua with "failure to control widely dangerous means" in the investigation of the fire that destroyed the Kaua'i Kamalani Pavilion Thursday evening.

Aguiar is being held in the Kaua'i Police Department cell block because he was unable to post $100 bail, police said.

There were no injured in the fire.

The pavilion in Lydgate Park was built by the community in 2004 and was part of a community project that includes a playground, a mazelike bridge and other features.

Police had initially charged Aguiar with first-degree arson.
