UH's Tausaga, Smethurst WAC Softball Players of Week

University of Hawai'i's Tyleen Tausaga and Justine Smethurst were named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the week, respectively, the league announced today.Tausaga, a senior from Honolulu, hit .412 (7 for 17) in the Oceanic Time Warner Cable Paradise Classic, including game-winning home runs against 24th-ranked Auburn and No. 15 Nebraska.
Smethurst, a sophomore from Victoria, Australia, picked up victories over Auburn and Portland State. Against the Vikings, she tossed a five-inning shutout, striking out 10 of the 15 batters she faced in the game shortened because of the mercy rule. Against Auburn, she threw a complete game, striking out three and scattering five hits.
